ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abuja chapter, warns of a resurgence of ‘one-chance’ robberies in the Federal Capital Territory, calling for urgent action from authorities.
Speaking at a media briefing on Friday, NBA Abuja chairman Okechukwu Emelieze urges FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and the police to review security strategies, particularly for commuters who rely on commercial transport. “The renewed wave of attacks is deeply disturbing,” Emelieze says, citing recent killings linked to the criminal scheme.
The warning follows the deaths of lawyer Mediatrix Chigbo and nurse Chinemerem Chukwumeziem, both allegedly targeted by ‘one-chance’ operators. Chigbo’s body was recovered along the Kubwa Expressway on 7 January 2026, a day after she left for work.

Receiving the delegation, FCT Commissioner of Police Miller Dantawaye assures residents that investigations are ongoing and urges the public to remain vigilant, especially when boarding commercial vehicles.
Public concern continues to grow as residents call for stronger safeguards across the capital.
