ABUJA, Nigeria – The Independent National Electoral Commission has called for coordinated action among political parties, security agencies and civil society groups to prevent threats ahead of the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti, Resident Electoral Commissioner Bunmi Omoseyindemi said the commission was committed to delivering a peaceful and credible poll but stressed that success depends on stakeholder cooperation.
“We are fully committed to delivering a credible, inclusive and peaceful election, but this cannot be achieved in isolation,” he said.
The appeal came during an Election Risk Management (ERM) sensitisation workshop aimed at strengthening preparedness.
Omoseyindemi warned against vote-buying, misinformation and political violence, urging parties to run issue-based campaigns in line with the Electoral Act.
“Campaigns should be peaceful and free from incitement,” he added.
Participants at the workshop included security agencies, civil society organisations and media representatives.
