LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has sealed four properties in Ikotun and Ajah over alleged discharge of untreated wastewater into public spaces.
The enforcement followed complaints from residents and subsequent investigations, which confirmed environmental violations.
Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, said two residential buildings in Ikotun were shut after repeated warnings were ignored.
Investigations revealed that property owners deliberately channelled wastewater onto public roads, creating environmental hazards. Lagos Seals Ikotun, Ajah Properties Over Wastewater
Additional facilities, including a public toilet and a mechanic workshop in Ajah, were also sealed for discharging waste into drainage systems.
“The situation constitutes a public nuisance,” Wahab said, warning that enforcement would continue.
Authorities said offenders risk sanctions and prosecution under environmental laws, urging compliance with proper wastewater management practices.
