GOMBE, Nigeria – The Federal Government has graduated 744 former insurgents and victims of violent extremism under its de-radicalisation and reintegration initiative, Operation Safe Corridor.
The participants underwent structured rehabilitation, including vocational training, psychosocial support and civic education, to prepare them for reintegration into society.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, described the programme as a strategic complement to military operations.
“Lasting peace requires efforts that promote disengagement from violence and reintegration into communities,” he said.
Coordinator of the programme, Brig. Gen. Yusuf Ali, said the initiative provides a pathway for individuals willing to renounce extremism.
He noted that many participants were drawn into conflict under coercive circumstances and now have an opportunity to rebuild their lives.
Authorities urged communities and state governments to support reintegration efforts, stressing that acceptance and monitoring are key to preventing relapse.
The programme underscores Nigeria’s growing reliance on non-military strategies alongside security operations to achieve long-term stability.
