LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET) has cautioned students of aesthetic medicine to strictly adhere to professional ethics and safety standards as they complete their training.
The Provost, Professor Raheem Akewushola, issued the warning on Tuesday while addressing the 2025/26 cohort entering the final phase of their six-month programme.
He stressed that practitioners must apply best practices learned during training to safeguard public health.
“Students must adhere strictly to critical best practices, professional ethics and safety standards,” he said.
Akewushola noted that the programme attracted participants from across Nigeria as part of efforts to standardise aesthetic medicine practice nationwide.
He emphasised that the college’s curriculum is limited to non-invasive procedures, warning against deviation.
“The college does not train students on invasive surgeries or injectables,” he said, adding that any practitioner engaging in such procedures would not be recognised by the institution.
The provost also highlighted the importance of in-depth knowledge of human anatomy, particularly skin health, describing it as essential to safe practice.
He commended course coordinator Dr Felix Avajah for his role in delivering quality training, noting that proper education is key to eliminating quackery in the field.
