LAGOS, Nigeria – Lagos State has expanded its emergency response infrastructure with the commissioning of a new fire station in Ajegunle, reinforcing efforts to improve fire safety and urban resilience.
The Tolu Fire Station, located within the Tolu School Complex in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, forms part of a broader development programme integrating education, safety and recreation.
The facility, unveiled during a two-day event, includes 36 schools, a stadium with 19 mini football pitches and a multi-agency emergency complex.
Officials said the project reflects a strategic push under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to strengthen public safety systems.
Controller-General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said the new station would significantly improve response capacity in densely populated communities.
“The additional fire station will enhance emergency coverage and reduce response times,” she said.
With the addition, Lagos now operates 25 fire service locations, with more facilities under construction and others included in the current budget.
Authorities say expanding fire infrastructure remains critical to protecting lives and supporting rapid urban growth.
