LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government has launched a three-day training programme on artificial intelligence and digital pedagogy for senior secondary school teachers, as part of efforts to modernise classroom teaching and improve learning outcomes.
The workshop, organised by the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission on Tuesday, targets teachers on Grade Levels 15 to 17 and is focused on integrating technology into teaching practices.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Ali-Balogun, described the initiative as a timely response to rapid technological changes shaping global education.
“The education landscape is constantly evolving, and teachers must stay updated with innovative strategies,” he said.
He noted that the programme aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda, particularly its emphasis on education and digital transformation.
TESCOM Chairman, Victoria Peregrino, said the training promotes a shift towards learner-centred teaching, encouraging creativity and critical thinking.
“You are agents of change. Let the knowledge acquired here transform your classrooms,” she said. Lagos Trains Teachers on AI to Improve Learning Outcomes
She also highlighted the importance of ethical considerations, stressing that artificial intelligence should complement—not replace—teachers, while safeguarding data privacy.
