CALABAR, Nigeria – Four volunteer health workers at Akpet Cottage Hospital in Cross River State have been granted automatic employment by the state government in recognition of their years of dedicated service without formal appointments.
Commissioner for Health, Dr Henry Egbe Ayuk, announced the approval during an inspection visit to the hospital in Biase Local Government Area, where he commended the workers for helping sustain healthcare delivery despite years of volunteering.
He said Governor Bassey Edet Otu’s administration remains committed to rewarding dedication and strengthening the state’s healthcare workforce.
“Let me assure the Akpet Central community that the four names submitted to me will be taken directly for the approval of His Excellency. The sacrifices made by this community in deploying its sons and daughters to sustain this hospital will not go unrewarded,” he said.
The beneficiaries are Ada Ukam, Esu Ukweni Abo, Blessing Umera and Florence Ahong..
