Professor Segun Aina
ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, marking a major leadership transition at Nigeria’s tertiary admissions agency.
In a statement on Thursday, Aina, a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife is expected to assume office on August 1, 2026, following the completion of the second tenure of outgoing registrar, professor Is-haq Oloyede.
The Presidency said the appointment reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening technology-driven reforms in Nigeria’s education assessment system.
Aina, who turns 40 in July, is widely recognised for his expertise in digital systems, examination technology and public sector innovation.
He studied Computer Systems Engineering at the University of Kent before obtaining a master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, alongside a doctorate in Digital Signal Processing, from Loughborough University. He also attended the Senior Management Programme at lbs.edu.ng.
The new registrar previously served with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained experience in examination administration and data management systems.
Over the last 15 years, Aina has advised federal and state institutions on digital transformation, ICT reforms and examination integrity. He has also consulted for major examination bodies, including National Examinations Council and National Business and Technical Examinations Board.
