ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s High Commissioner-designate to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode, has formally assumed diplomatic duties after presenting copies of his Letters of Credence to the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation.
Fani-Kayode announced this in a post on X on Saturday, saying he presented the documents on Friday, October 30, to Clayson Monyela, the department’s Deputy Director-General of Public Diplomacy and Acting Chief of State Protocol.
He described the presentation as an important diplomatic milestone and the formal commencement of his duties as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa. Fani-Kayode also said he met with Ambassador Seboga, another Deputy Director-General of the department, as part of his initial engagements with senior South African officials.
The presentation of copies of the Letters of Credence precedes the formal ceremony at which he will present the original documents to South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. According to Fani-Kayode, the ceremony is expected to take place in the coming days.
The presentation of credentials is a formal step in the diplomatic process through which an ambassador or high commissioner is accredited to a host country.
