OGUN, Nigeria – The Osun governorship election security operation is underway as the Nigeria Police Force deploys personnel and operational assets across the state to ensure a peaceful, credible and violence-free governorship election.
Police announce the deployment on Friday as security agencies conclude preparations for the poll, with officers positioned to protect voters, electoral officials, election materials and critical infrastructure.
According to the police, the statewide operation covers polling units, collation centres and facilities belonging to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The deployment forms part of a coordinated security strategy involving other security agencies to safeguard lives and property, maintain public order and prevent electoral violence.
Police authorities say the operation is designed to deter thuggery, voter intimidation and other activities capable of undermining the integrity of the election.
The Force also says security personnel will ensure the safe movement and protection of sensitive electoral materials throughout the voting and collation process.
Residents are assured that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to enable eligible voters to participate freely and safely in the electoral process.
The police reaffirm their commitment to professionalism, neutrality and impartiality while carrying out election security duties across all local government areas of Osun State.
Authorities urge members of the public to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security agencies and report any suspicious activities that could threaten the peaceful conduct of the election.
