LAGOS, Nigeria – Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested two women following a raid on an alleged illegal fruit drink production facility in Aradagun, Badagry, Lagos State.
The women, aged 48 and 50, were arrested during a night operation at the facility on Talabi Onilegbale Street, Aradagun, in Olorunda Local Council Development Area.
NSCDC spokesman Oluwaseun Abolurin, who spoke on behalf of the Lagos State Commandant on Monday, said the raid followed five days of surveillance after the corps received intelligence about activities at the premises.
The operation was conducted at about 9pm on September 19, 2026.
According to the NSCDC, the factory was not registered, while its products, branded Barkas Juice and allegedly produced under Titi Alubarika Trading Stores Ltd., carried a purportedly fraudulent National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) registration number, 01-2166L.
Officials reportedly recovered cartons of the drinks, rolls of product labels and a truck loaded with the products.
The corps also alleged that a dirty well and an unclean industrial storage tank were being used during production.
Abolurin said the drinks were allegedly being distributed beyond Lagos.
“Adulterated fruit drinks are being produced in this factory and supplied to Edo State and other parts of the country. The products were found packed in cartons and also loaded in a truck.”
He said the corps contacted NAFDAC to verify the registration number and was informed that the product was not registered.
Abolurin described the alleged production as a public health concern and urged consumers to exercise caution when purchasing unregistered fruit drinks.
However, claims that the drinks contained excessive sugar, additives or dyes had not been established by laboratory findings and should not be treated as confirmed.
