LAGOS, Nigeria –Thousands of Lagos residents received free medical consultations, food assistance and other relief items on Saturday as David Ojo Ministries USA organised a humanitarian outreach aimed at easing healthcare costs and economic hardship.
The programme, held at the National Stadium in Surulere alongside the 2026 Festival of Praise and Miracles, targeted between 5,000 and 7,000 beneficiaries, including vulnerable families and children.
Speaking to journalists at the event, the ministry’s convener, Pastor David Ojo, said the initiative was designed to address pressing social and health needs beyond religious activities “I believe the gospel is about impact, not just preaching,” he said.
Ojo said medical professionals, including doctors from the United States, provided free consultations and attended to people with conditions such as diabetes and hypertension.
He added that the outreach helped identify illnesses that some beneficiaries had not previously known they had, with those requiring additional care referred for further treatment. According to Ojo, the ministry sometimes covered medical bills for beneficiaries who could not afford treatment.
The outreach also provided food assistance to households facing economic difficulties.
Ojo said some families depended on the ministry’s food distribution to meet their immediate needs. “Some beneficiaries tell us that the food we give them is what they and their families depend on for the following week,” he said. The programme included the distribution of cooked meals, rice and other food items, as well as thousands of children’s toys imported from the United States.
Ojo called on government authorities to fulfil their responsibilities towards citizens’ welfare, while encouraging individuals and private organisations to support community development initiatives. He said the programme was in its fourth edition and reached approximately 6,000 people in 2025.
The ministry is also planning to extend similar humanitarian activities to Tanzania, South Africa, Europe and Canada, he added.
