KANO, Nigeria – Four people, including two children, die in three separate accidents across Kano State in a single day, the Kano State Fire Service confirms.
The incidents occurred in Nassarawa, Bichi and Danbatta local government areas on Thursday, according to a statement by Service Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi on Friday.
In Nassarawa, firefighters respond to a residential fire at Badawa Layin Day by Day at 11:57 a.m. A young girl is rescued but later confirmed dead.
In Bichi LGA, three men die while attempting to rescue one another during a well-digging operation in Badume Kanawa village. Their bodies are recovered unresponsive and handed over to police.
The third incident occurs in Danbatta, where a 10-year-old boy falls into a well at Layin Abba Dabo. Firefighters retrieve him, but he is pronounced dead at the scene.
The Director of the Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urges residents to stop unsafe rescue attempts. “Entering wells without training leads to avoidable deaths,” he warns, calling on communities to contact emergency responders during incidents.
