EDO, Nigeria – The Edo State Police Command deploys 6,000 personnel across the state to strengthen security and ensure a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The Command says the operation follows directives from Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, in collaboration with other security agencies.
According to a statement on Tuesday, the deployment includes intensified visibility policing, strategic patrols, intelligence gathering and surveillance operations before, during and after the festivities.
Security personnel drawn from tactical units, the Police Mobile Force, State Intelligence Department and Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit are stationed at Eid prayer grounds, highways, recreational centres, markets and motor parks across the state.
The Command warns criminal elements to stay away from Edo, stressing that officers remain prepared to respond decisively to threats against public safety.
While congratulating Muslim faithful on the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Agbonika urges residents to remain law-abiding and security-conscious throughout the festive period.
He also encourages the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station and other security agencies.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government of Nigeria declares May 27 and May 28, 2026, as public holidays for the Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
President Bola Tinubu, in his Eid message, calls for national unity and reassures Nigerians of ongoing efforts to improve security and stabilise the economy.
In a related development, the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kwara State deploys 950 personnel to enhance road safety during the celebrations.
