ABUJA, Nigeria – Resident doctors under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) have begun an indefinite strike, escalating tensions in Abuja’s public health sector.
The action was confirmed in a communique on Monday jointly signed by ARD-FCT President, Dr George Ebong, and General Secretary, Dr Agbor Affiong.
The strike follows the expiration of a seven-day warning strike last week, during which the doctors accused the FCTA of ignoring demands over welfare, working conditions, and unpaid entitlements.
“We cannot continue to work under conditions that undermine both doctors and patients,” the association stated, stressing that repeated negotiations with the FCTA had produced no concrete outcomes.
The withdrawal of services is expected to disrupt healthcare delivery across government hospitals in the capital, sparking concern among patients.
ARD-FCT urged the government to take urgent steps, warning that prolonged neglect could worsen Abuja’s healthcare crisis.
Negotiations are expected to continue, but no timeline has been announced for a resolution.
