ANAMBRA, Nigeria – Police in Anambra State arrest a 28-year-old man, Friday Akonobi, over the abduction and alleged ritual killing of a six-year-old girl, in a case linked to an Enugu-based suspected native doctor.
The victim, Ozioma Nwankwo, was abducted from Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State in May 2025 and allegedly sold to Obieze Ezeani, popularly known as “Edey Play”.
Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga in a statement on Sunday says Akonobi is arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, following credible intelligence.
“The suspect confessed to committing the crime with four accomplices currently at large,” Ikenga says.
Investigators allege the gang received ₦1 million for delivering virgin girls to the suspect native doctor, who has since been arrested by Enugu State Police.
“The victim was murdered and used for ritual purposes,” the statement adds.
The case sparks outrage nationwide after related videos circulate widely on social media, reigniting debates on ritual crimes and child protection.
Police say efforts are ongoing to track down remaining suspects and ensure justice for the victim.
