KEBBI, Nigeria – The Kebbi State Government has confirmed the killing of three Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officers in an overnight attack by suspected members of the Lakurawa gang.
Commissioner for Security and Internal Affairs, Haliru Aliyu Wasagu, on Friday described the assault — which occurred late Thursday in Bakin Ruwa, Bagudo Local Government Area — as a deliberate attempt to destabilise border security.
According to the Commissioner, the attackers invaded the officers’ residential quarters and set the buildings ablaze. The officers were fatally shot while attempting to flee, and one other was injured.
Wasagu said security reinforcements had been deployed and a manhunt launched for the perpetrators.
He noted that although the motive of the latest attack is still under investigation, the Lakurawa gang has previously been linked to violent incidents in the region, including the killing of police and customs personnel earlier in the year.
Government officials say efforts are underway to stabilise affected border communities and strengthen security operations.
