DR Congo – The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has recorded 964 additional confirmed Ebola cases and 511 deaths since the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) previous update on October 23, as the country battles what the agency describes as its largest Ebola outbreak.
The new figures were reported in a WHO Disease Outbreak News update published on November 6, covering developments up to November 3, 2026. The outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo virus, has spread across 67 health zones in eight provinces of the DRC, with active transmission continuing in 51 health zones.
The country has also recorded 2,881 recoveries, according to WHO. The agency described the outbreak as “the largest Ebola disease outbreak ever recorded in the Democratic Republic of the Congo irrespective of virus species.”
Since the outbreak was declared on May 15, 2026, five countries have reported cases: the DRC, France, Kenya, Nigeria and Uganda. WHO said the outbreaks in France and Uganda had been brought under control since August, while Kenya and Nigeria were continuing their response activities.
However, no new cases had been reported in Kenya or Nigeria since the previous WHO update on October 23. The latest figures underline the scale of the public-health emergency in the DRC and the importance of continued surveillance and cross-border coordination among countries responding to cases linked to the outbreak.
WHO’s update also highlights the need to monitor transmission across affected health zones and sustain efforts to identify cases, trace contacts and provide care to people infected with the virus.
