
ABUJA, Nigeria – Vice-President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja on Sunday for New York, where he will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
According to his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima is scheduled to deliver Nigeria’s national statement during the high-level general debate before world leaders.
He will also unveil Nigeria’s updated climate commitments under the Paris Agreement at a dedicated UN event, reinforcing the administration’s focus on sustainable development and global partnerships.
The 80th UNGA, which opened on 9 September, will hold its general debate from 23 to 27 September, concluding on the 29th. Ahead of the debate, the annual “SDG Moment” on 22 September will spotlight renewed global efforts to accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
On the sidelines, the Vice-President is expected to attend bilateral and multilateral meetings with heads of state, development partners, and business leaders to discuss issues of national and international significance, including climate action, economic recovery, and peacebuilding.
