ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerian doctors practising abroad to return home and help rebuild the country’s healthcare system, saying their expertise is crucial to improving medical services and achieving his administration’s health sector reforms.
Tinubu made the appeal on Friday while receiving members of the Nigerian Diaspora Medical Associations, led by the Director-General of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, at the State House, Abuja. The President urged the medical professionals to encourage more Nigerian doctors overseas to contribute to national development, insisting that “there’s nowhere like home.”
Reflecting on his own experience of studying and working in the United States before returning to Nigeria, Tinubu said he understood the opportunities abroad but believed the country needed the expertise of its citizens to strengthen critical sectors, particularly healthcare. “I’ve been through that journey. I’m home,” he said. “My friends who are still there, try to attract them home.”
