ABUJA, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the constitution of governing boards for three major federal institutions—the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC)—as part of renewed national efforts to enhance food security, expand agricultural financing, and accelerate education reforms.
The announcement was made on Friday in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
According to the release, President Tinubu reappointed Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura as Chairman of the UBEC Board. Other new appointees representing the six geopolitical zones include Uchendu Ikechi Mbaegbulem (Southeast), Gift Ngo (South South), Mrs Ibiwunmi Akinnola (Southwest), Dr Meiro Mandara (Northeast), Dr Abdu Imam Saulawa (Northwest), and Prof. Paul Ibukun-Olu Bolorunduro (North Central). The board will serve a four-year term in the first instance.
The President also confirmed earlier appointments of Muhammad Babangida as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture, and Ayo Sotinrin as Managing Director. Three executive directors were named: Fatima Garba (Corporate Services), Ka’amuna Ibrahim Khadi (Risk Management and Strategy), and Hakeem Oluwatosin Salami (Operations). Five non-executive directors representing the geopolitical zones were also approved to strengthen the bank’s oversight and operational capacity.
In accordance with the NADF Act, Tinubu approved the board for the National Agricultural Development Fund, chaired by Mallam Bello Maccido of the Northwest. Other members include Dr Nelson Henry Essien (South South), Amina Ahmed Habib (Northwest), Akinyinka Olufela Akinnola (Southwest), Hassan Tanimu Musa Usman (Northeast), Lufer Samson Orkar (North Central), and Felix Achibiri (Southeast).
