ABUJA, Nigeria – A Federal Capital Territory High Court has sentenced 19-year-old teacher Abdullahi Abbass to life imprisonment for raping his nine-year-old male pupil in Kwali Area Council.
The judgment, delivered by Justice M. Osho–Adebiyi, was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by National Press Officer of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Vincent Adekoye.
Abbass lured the child after school on 19 March 2025, and raped him, according to court evidence. The victim reported the incident to his mother, leading to the teacher’s arrest and prosecution under the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015, which prescribes life imprisonment.
NAPTIP Director-General, Binta Adamu Bello, welcomed the ruling.
“This judgment sends a strong message. The offender’s name will be entered in the Sex Offenders Register,” she said.
She praised the police for their collaboration and reaffirmed NAPTIP’s commitment to tackling sexual violence nationwide.
