Force PRO, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force has cautioned groups planning protests for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to steer clear of the Aso Rock Villa and other restricted areas in Abuja.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, issued the warning in a statement on Sunday, citing a Federal High Court order in Abuja prohibiting demonstrations around key government institutions.
“The order restrains any persons or groups acting under the respondents’ instruction from staging protests within or around Aso Rock Villa, the National Assembly Complex, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way,” Hundeyin said.
He urged all intending protesters and counter-protesters to respect the restrictions and avoid actions that could lead to confrontation or disrupt public peace.
Hundeyin said the police would ensure free movement of traffic, protection of lives and property, and the safety of all law-abiding citizens during the period.
Hundeyin added that individuals using social media to incite unrest would be tracked, investigated, and prosecuted with digital evidence.
“The Inspector-General of Police has directed the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, to sustain visible deployments and ensure the safety of residents,” he stated.
