KANO, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force reports widespread compliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive ordering the withdrawal of police officers from VIP escort and guard duties.
In a statement released on Saturday, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin says a special enforcement team deployed to Lagos recorded no violations during field monitoring.
The operation, which began at 10:00 a.m., covered strategic locations including the Lekki–Ikoyi Link Bridge, the domestic terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and other key routes. “No incidents of unauthorised police deployment for VIP escort operations were recorded, and no arrests were made,” the statement says.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun reiterates the Force’s commitment to enforcing the directive nationwide, stressing that redeploying officers to frontline duties will strengthen public safety. “This policy will enhance general security, improve crime prevention and better protect lives and property,” Egbetokun says.
He assures Nigerians that enforcement will continue across the country without favour, urging public cooperation to build a more professional and people-centred police service.
