OYO, Nigeria – The Oyo State Police Command says it has launched a forensic investigation into a viral video linked to the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Police authorities confirmed on Sunday that the footage circulating on social media is undergoing detailed analysis to verify its authenticity and support ongoing rescue operations.
The victims were abducted on Friday during coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School in Esiele.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, investigators are using the video to assist intelligence gathering and identify those responsible for the kidnappings.
“Following the commencement of these investigative procedures, the command reassures residents of its unwavering commitment towards ensuring the safe return and reunification of all abducted persons with their families,” Ayanlade said.
He disclosed that security agencies had intensified operational, tactical and intelligence-driven efforts to rescue the victims unharmed.
The police spokesperson urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of creating panic or aiding criminal elements.
“Members of the public are equally advised to refrain from sharing unverified information, misleading content, or materials capable of heightening tension,” he stated.
Ayanlade appealed to residents with credible information to cooperate with security agencies by reporting useful intelligence that could support rescue operations and investigations.
The command reaffirmed its determination to restore normalcy and ensure all perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.
The abduction has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of schools and communities in parts of Oyo State.
Security agencies continue to coordinate rescue operations as families await the safe return of the kidnapped victims.
