ABUJA, Nigeria – Oyo abduction operations that secured the release of abducted pupils and teachers represent a major victory against insecurity and demonstrate the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting schoolchildren across Nigeria, the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, said on Saturday.
Alausa praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Oyo State Government and security agencies for successfully rescuing the victims kidnapped during an attack on a school in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, the minister described the rescue operation as a significant achievement that reflects the government’s determination to ensure the safety and wellbeing of every Nigerian child.
He commended President Tinubu for providing leadership throughout the rescue mission, saying the administration remained resolute until all the abducted pupils and teachers regained their freedom.
“The successful rescue of these innocent children and their teachers is a moment of great relief for the nation. It reflects the determination of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to protect the lives of Nigerians and demonstrates the growing effectiveness of collaboration among the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government and our security agencies,” Alausa said.
The minister also applauded Governor Seyi Makinde and the Oyo State Government for supporting security agencies throughout the operation and for facilitating the rehabilitation and reintegration of the rescued victims.
He further commended the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and other security and intelligence agencies for their professionalism, coordination and sacrifice during the rescue mission.
According to the statement, the joint operation led to the safe rescue of the pupils and teachers and the arrest of those responsible for the abduction without further harm to the victims.
“On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, I congratulate Mr President on this important achievement. I also commend the Oyo State Government for its support and commitment throughout this difficult period, and sincerely appreciate the bravery, patriotism and tireless efforts of all the security personnel whose dedication made this rescue possible. Their collective efforts have restored hope to the affected families and reassured Nigerians that our institutions remain resolute in confronting criminality,” the minister said.
