LAGOS, Nigeria – OPay scholarship programme is set to expand to 41 tertiary institutions across Nigeria by the end of 2026 as the fintech company increases investment in education through its ₦1.2 billion scholarship initiative.
The company announced the expansion after signing a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Miva Open University on September 2, bringing the number of participating institutions to 25, with another 16 institutions expected to join before the end of the year.
According to OPay, the scholarship programme is designed to run for 10 years, providing long-term financial support to students while easing the cost of higher education.
The latest partnership extends the initiative to students studying through flexible and technology-enabled learning platforms offered by Miva Open University.
OPay said the scholarship programme forms part of its broader commitment to youth empowerment and human capital development.
The company noted that supporting education remains one of the most effective ways to equip young Nigerians with the knowledge and skills needed to compete in a rapidly changing global economy.
In addition to the scholarship scheme, OPay highlighted other youth-focused initiatives, including the OPay National Innovation Challenge, implemented in partnership with Google and the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, as well as OPay Futures, which promotes innovation and entrepreneurship among young Nigerians.
The fintech company said expanding the scholarship programme reflects its long-term commitment to improving educational opportunities since entering the Nigerian market eight years ago.
According to OPay, increasing participation to 41 tertiary institutions will enable thousands more students to access financial support and complete their studies without the burden of rising education costs.
The company added that sustained investment in education would help produce the next generation of professionals, innovators, entrepreneurs and technology experts capable of driving Nigeria’s future economic growth.
