ABUJA, Nigeria – The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) forecasts three days of thunderstorms across several southern states between Wednesday and Friday, warning residents to prepare for unstable weather conditions.
States expected to experience thunderstorms include Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, Oyo, Imo, Abia, Ekiti and Akwa Ibom.
According to NiMet’s weekly weather outlook, light rains and thunderstorms are expected during morning hours on Wednesday, with increased cloud cover and isolated storms anticipated in the afternoons and evenings towards the end of the week.
“On Friday, increased cloudiness with intervals of sunshine is anticipated, alongside isolated thunderstorms and light rains,” the agency states.
NiMet cautions that rising temperatures during the forecast period could cause thermal discomfort, especially in densely populated urban centres.
The agency advises residents to wear breathable clothing, stay hydrated and remain in well-ventilated environments.
People with asthma and respiratory conditions are urged to exercise caution due to fluctuating humidity and temperature levels.
NiMet reiterates its call for the public to follow official forecasts and weather advisories, as climate variability continues to increase the frequency of extreme weather patterns.
