Vice President Shettima speaking at the Nigerian Renewable Energy Forum.
ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria is positioning itself as Africa’s renewable energy hub after attracting over $400 million in clean energy investments, Vice President Kashim Shettima announced at the 2025 Nigerian Renewable Energy Innovation Forum (NREIF) in Abuja on Monday.
Shettima said the initiative will create 1,500 direct jobs through projects in solar manufacturing, battery storage, and smart metering. “This marks a new chapter in Nigeria’s green energy journey,” he said.
Memoranda of Understanding were signed with the Dutch government and private partners to boost local production.
Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu described the initiative as “the cornerstone of Nigeria’s energy transformation.”
However, Shettima noted that $23 billion in short-term funding is required to meet access and poverty-reduction targets.
Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan aims for a 277GW system by 2060, driving sustainable economic diversification.
