NEMA DG, Mrs. Zubaida Umar and NACA’s Director-General, Dr Temitope Ilori
ABUJA, Nigeria – Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) have agreed to integrate HIV prevention and care into national disaster response systems.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to NEMA headquarters, NACA’s Director-General, Dr Temitope Ilori, emphasised that displaced and vulnerable groups “must not be excluded from HIV prevention, testing, and treatment during crises.”
NEMA DG, Mrs. Zubaida Umar welcomed the collaboration as a step towards “building community resilience through coordinated public health and humanitarian action.”
Both agencies highlighted the need to address stigma and ensure confidential access to HIV care within Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
The move signals a progressive model of merging health and disaster response — placing human well-being at the centre of national resilience planning.
