LAGOS, Nigeria – Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted illicit drugs hidden inside imported water purifier machines and arrested multiple suspects in coordinated nationwide operations.
The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
According to Babafemi, the seizure was made at a Lagos courier facility on May 26, where officers recovered three kilograms of ketamine and 199 grams of Ecstasy concealed in water purifier machines imported from the Netherlands.
“The drugs were carefully hidden in the water purifier machines, discovered and seized at a courier company in Lagos,” he said.
In Kaduna State, NDLEA operatives raided a residence in Gonin Gora and arrested a couple alongside another suspect after recovering 100 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 1,246 kilograms.
The agency also intercepted a suspect transporting 380 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway.
“The suspect and the exhibit have since been handed over to the appropriate security agency for further action,” Babafemi added.
Further operations in Niger State led to the seizure of 457 kilograms of skunk from a warehouse in Bosso Local Government Area, while officers in Enugu intercepted 22,000 tramadol pills, 100 ampoules of pentazocine and 200 grams of bromazepam from a commercial vehicle travelling to Taraba State.
NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa, commended officers involved in the operations and urged them to sustain the agency’s offensive against drug trafficking.
The agency also continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) awareness campaign in schools and communities nationwide.
