LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has introduced a toll-free helpline for residents to report fake, expired, adulterated and counterfeit products, as well as other consumer-related violations.
LASCOPA General Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Afolabi Solebo, announced the initiative in a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday and signed by the agency’s Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Adesile Rufai.
Solebo urged Lagos residents to “tell it to LASCOPA” by calling 080 0005 2726 to report violations, seek guidance and request action.
Consumers can also submit complaints through lasgcopa@gmail.com and the agency’s Facebook, Instagram and X platforms, @lascopa.
Solebo advised complainants to provide verifiable evidence to support investigations. Such evidence may include receipts, invoices, photographs or videos, product labels, proof of payment, and screenshots of transactions or conversations with sellers.
The agency said the helpline can also be used to report defective products, misleading advertisements, unfair business practices, poor services and disputes arising from online shopping.
Solebo urged consumers to verify sellers, prices, product labels, manufacturing and expiry dates, batch numbers and other relevant details before purchasing products, particularly through online platforms.
“Timely, credible complaints help us detect violations and take enforcement action. Consumer protection is a shared responsibility among government, businesses and consumers,” he said. He added: “If you see it, question it. If you suspect it, report it. Tell it to LASCOPA.”
The agency’s latest intervention provides residents with a direct channel to alert regulators to potentially unsafe products and other consumer protection concerns.
