LAGOS, Nigeria – Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned new hostel facilities at the Lagos State College of Nursing, Igando, as the government moves to improve the welfare, safety and learning conditions of student nurses.
Sanwo-Olu, in a post on his official X account on Friday, said the new facilities would provide student nurses with a safe, modern and conducive environment to live and study during their professional training.
“Today, I commissioned new hostel facilities at the Lagos State College of Nursing, Igando,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu Links Better Accommodation to Healthcare Future
The governor described the provision of decent accommodation for student nurses as more than a welfare intervention, saying it represents an investment in the future of healthcare delivery in Lagos.
According to him, appropriate accommodation would allow healthcare trainees to focus on their academic work, clinical training and professional development without the added difficulties associated with inadequate living conditions.
“Providing a safe and modern living environment for our student nurses is an investment in the future of healthcare across Lagos,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu added that improving the conditions under which healthcare professionals are trained would ultimately benefit the communities they would serve after graduation.
The newly commissioned facilities are expected to complement ongoing efforts to strengthen nursing education and improve the training environment for healthcare professionals in Lagos.
The development also comes as the need to expand the healthcare workforce and improve training conditions for nurses and other health professionals remains important to healthcare delivery.
The Lagos State Government said the new hostel facilities would provide student nurses with improved living conditions while supporting a more conducive environment for professional training.
