OYO, Nigeria – The Oyo State Police Command has launched a Safe School initiative to strengthen security around schools and protect pupils, students, teachers and school infrastructure as schools reopen for the new academic session.
The initiative, launched in collaboration with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), is designed to improve police visibility around schools, strengthen community intelligence and ensure faster responses to emerging security threats.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.
According to the command, the initiative will increase police presence around schools while strengthening measures to protect members of school communities and educational infrastructure.
The command said it would also work closely with the PCRC Safe School Club, school proprietors and administrators, Parent-Teacher Associations, teachers, parents and students to create a coordinated security framework.
The collaboration is expected to support the early identification, reporting and prevention of threats around schools.
The launch coincided with the 42nd anniversary of the PCRC in Oyo State and was attended by the National Chairman of the PCRC, Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, the Oyo State PCRC Chairperson and other stakeholders.
