LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State Safety Commission seals multiple hotels and commercial buildings across Lagos State over repeated violations of elevator safety regulations.
Authorities confirm that at least 12 facilities in Lekki and Ikeja are affected, including major residential and commercial properties.
Chief Scientific Officer Sovi Tijani says enforcement followed persistent non-compliance. “Several operators ignored warnings and failed to register their lift systems for inspection,” he states.
He warns that poorly maintained elevators pose serious risks to lives and property, stressing the importance of routine safety checks.
Officials say some facility managers resisted enforcement, while others failed to acknowledge regulatory notices.
The commission vows to intensify monitoring and sanctions, urging building owners to comply with safety standards to avoid closures.
