LAGOS, Nigeria – Lagos State unveils a new digital management system designed to transform water, sanitation and hygiene services across Africa’s most populous city.
The Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources, Mr Mahmood Adegbite, announces the launch of the WASH Management Information System (LAWMIS) at the Sector Coordination and Planning Committee meeting in Ikeja.
Adegbite says the platform delivers real-time data to improve planning, accountability and evidence-based policymaking across the sector.
“The adoption of the Lagos State WASH Policy gives us a renewed mandate to harmonise interventions and accelerate service delivery,” he says.
He stresses that collaboration among ministries, local councils, development partners and the private sector remain essential to eliminating duplication and strengthening oversight.
The meeting, supported by WaterAid Nigeria, reviews 2025 sector performance and aligns priorities for the coming year, with stakeholders setting targets toward universal access to sustainable water and sanitation.
WaterAid’s Lagos Project Lead, Dr Adebayo Alao, says effective service delivery depends on cross-sector cooperation, identifying health, education, physical planning and local government agencies as critical partners.
“The goal is to build a vibrant and efficient WASH sector driven by sound policy, adequate financing and reliable data,” Alao says.
He highlights inclusive infrastructure design to support women, children, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
Stakeholders agree to quarterly coordination meetings to sustain momentum and ensure alignment with the state’s approved budget and policy framework.
