LOKOJA, Nigeria – The Kogi State Government has launched the first phase of a major overhaul of primary healthcare services with the commissioning of 80 revitalised Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities across the state.
The commissioning, led by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, was carried out in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA). The upgrades include rehabilitation of facilities, provision of medical equipment, and staffing support to ensure consistency in maternal, child and emergency healthcare delivery.
Speaking at the launch on Saturday, the Executive Director of NPHCDA, Dr. Muyi Aina, said the intervention underscores the importance of strong community-level healthcare systems.
“Primary healthcare is where most Nigerians seek treatment first. Improving these facilities improves health outcomes and saves lives,” Aina said.
He also formally handed over medical equipment and essential health commodities to the state, noting that the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to deliver healthcare closer to families.
Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive healthcare.
“No child, mother or family should be denied basic healthcare due to distance or the condition of a facility,” he said. “We are building a system that works for everyone.”
