Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda.
KATSINA, Nigeria – The Katsina State Government has launched a free Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) surgery and empowerment programme for 50 affected women, in a move aimed at restoring dignity and strengthening healthcare support for survivors.
The programme is being implemented by the state Ministries of Health and Women Affairs, in partnership with First Bank of Nigeria Plc. Details were disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Mohammed Ibrahim Kaulaha.
Speaking at the launch, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda said, “Our administration remains fully committed to ensuring that every citizen can live a life of dignity,” he said. “With partners like First Bank, we are delivering not just treatment but hope.”
Representing First Bank, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu said the intervention reflects the bank’s belief that “quality healthcare is a fundamental right.”
“When we empower women, we strengthen homes, communities, and society,” he added.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Musa Adamu Funtua, described the project as a landmark step in addressing VVF, which is often caused by prolonged labour and leads to severe medical and social consequences.
The initiative highlights a growing emphasis on public-private partnerships to improve women’s health outcomes and social inclusion in Katsina State.
