Kano Governor, Abba Yusuf
KANO, Nigeria – The Kano State Government has launched a landmark Measles-Rubella (MR) Integrated Campaign, aiming to vaccinate every eligible child and strengthen immunisation across all 44 local government areas.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by his deputy Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, flagged off the campaign on Monday at Tofa Town, Tofa Local Government Area.
He described it as “a reaffirmation of our collective commitment to ensure that no child is left behind.”
“This is not just a ceremony — it is an opportunity to protect our children with life-saving vaccines,” Yusuf said.
The integrated campaign includes vaccination against measles, rubella, polio, and HPV, alongside mass drug administration for river blindness, making it the first of its kind in the African region.
The governor also announced the upgrade of Tofa Comprehensive Health Centre to a secondary facility, with ₦250 million earmarked for expansion and similar projects underway across the state.
He urged parents and guardians to ensure their children receive all vaccines, stressing they are “safe, free, and effective.”
Governor Yusuf commended health workers and vaccination teams as “the true champions of this campaign” and reaffirmed partnerships with NPHCDA, WHO, UNICEF, AFENET, and CHAI to sustain progress.
