KADUNA, Nigeria – The Kaduna PHC medical supplies programme has begun as the Kaduna State Government distributes essential medicines, safe delivery kits and medical equipment to 255 Primary Health Care (PHC) centres to improve maternal and child healthcare.
The distribution is launched on Tuesday at Unguwan Sarki Primary Health Care Centre by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Sadiq Mamman Lagos, according to an official statement.
Mamman Lagos says the intervention forms part of Governor Uba Sani’s healthcare reforms aimed at reducing maternal and infant deaths by ensuring that primary healthcare facilities are adequately equipped to provide routine and emergency medical services.
He says shortages of medicines, delivery kits and functional medical equipment have contributed significantly to preventable maternal deaths across communities.
According to the commissioner, the exercise will reach all 255 PHCs across Kaduna State to improve equitable access to life-saving healthcare, particularly for pregnant women, newborns and children.
He explains that the availability of essential medicines and equipment will strengthen emergency obstetric care by enabling health workers to respond more effectively to pregnancy and childbirth complications.
Mamman Lagos says improving primary healthcare services will also reduce pressure on secondary and tertiary hospitals while restoring public confidence in community health facilities.
He urges healthcare workers to ensure proper management and responsible use of the supplies while maintaining quality healthcare services.
The Kaduna State Government reaffirms its commitment to building a resilient healthcare system centred on accessibility, affordability and improved service delivery.
