IGP Olatunji Disu
ABUJA, Nigeria – The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening technology-driven policing following an operational visit to the National Cybercrime Centre on Tuesday in Abuja.
During the high-level assessment, Disu reviewed ongoing investigations, digital infrastructure, and inter-agency collaborations at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre, a key institution in tackling cyber threats.
He stressed that conventional policing methods are no longer sufficient in addressing increasingly sophisticated cybercrime.
“The role of technology-driven policing is critical in modern law enforcement,” he said, highlighting plans to expand cyber intelligence, digital forensics, and proactive crime prevention strategies.
The centre has emerged as a frontline response unit against rising cases of online fraud, hacking, and identity theft, which continue to threaten national security and public trust in digital platforms.
Officials briefed the police chief on current operations and challenges, including the need for enhanced technical capacity and advanced investigative tools.
The visit signals renewed leadership focus on strengthening institutional capacity within the police force. Analysts say it could translate into increased funding, improved training, and upgrades in digital policing infrastructure.
Security experts note that Nigeria’s growing digital economy has made cybercrime a major national concern, requiring sustained investment in specialised policing capabilities.
Authorities say further reforms are expected as the police intensify efforts to stay ahead of cybercriminal networks.
