ABUJA, Nigeria — The Federal Government has dismissed reports claiming that Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Monguno, in Borno State was attacked, describing the viral social media reports as false and urging the public to rely only on official information.
The Federal Ministry of Education issued the clarification on Monday in a statement signed by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs Boriowo Folasade, saying the reports had created unnecessary panic among parents and residents.
According to the ministry, FGGC Monguno remains safe and fully operational, with no security breach recorded at the college.
The ministry said students and staff are safe, while academic and boarding activities continue uninterrupted under existing security arrangements designed to protect federal unity colleges, particularly in security-sensitive areas.
Minister of Education Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to safeguarding students and educational institutions nationwide, stressing that the welfare and safety of learners remain a top priority.
The ministry clarified that individuals mentioned in the misleading reports were remedial students who are not affiliated with FGGC Monguno, adding that the Borno State Government is handling the matter separately.
It emphasised that no student of the Federal Government Girls’ College was involved in the incident circulating online.
The ministry warned against the spread of misinformation capable of creating fear and undermining confidence in public institutions.
It urged journalists, bloggers and social media users to verify information through official government channels before publication or sharing.
Parents were also advised to remain calm, with the ministry assuring them that learning activities at FGGC Monguno continue without disruption.
