KANO, Nigeria — The Federal Government has commissioned a modern digital e-library at Federal Government College (FGC), Kano, while reaffirming its commitment to expanding bilingual schools and improving education infrastructure across the country.
Minister of Education Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa inaugurated the upgraded facility on Monday during an inspection tour of major education projects in Kano State alongside the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, and other senior officials.
The commissioning forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to modernise learning facilities and improve access to quality education.
The newly renovated e-library features solar power, air-conditioning, modern lighting and nearly 80 digital workstations designed to enhance digital learning for students.
Dr Alausa disclosed that the present administration inherited 36 abandoned e-library projects across Unity Colleges, adding that 16 have now been completed through interventions by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
During the visit, the minister also inspected the ongoing Bilingual School in Ungogo, which he said has reached about 90 per cent completion.
He directed officials to begin recruiting teachers immediately to ensure the school opens in September.
According to Alausa, the Federal Government plans to establish a third bilingual school later this year and a fourth by June 2027 to provide formal education opportunities for Almajiri and other vulnerable children.
The minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) land swap initiative at FGC Kano, saying the programme would generate resources for improved classrooms, hostels and other infrastructure.
“Our responsibility is to ensure that every policy translates into better opportunities for our students. We have no interest other than providing quality education and improved infrastructure for Nigerian children,” he said.
Kano State Commissioner for Education Ali Haruna commended the Federal Government for its continued collaboration with the state government in strengthening education.
