Dr. Abayomi Ajayi
ABUJA, Nigeria – Nordica Fertility Centre Chief Medical Director, Dr Abayomi Ajayi has urged government support to expand access to High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), a non-invasive treatment for fibroids and adenomyosis.
Speaking during a virtual briefing on Wednesday, Dr Ajayi said the technology has achieved remarkable outcomes but remains costly for many Nigerian women.
“HIFU offers safe, scarless treatment without surgery. No woman should die from fibroids when this technology exists,” he said.
He added that Nordica, which introduced HIFU in Abuja over a year ago, had subsidised treatments despite high operational costs. “We’re the cheapest provider globally, yet access remains low,” he noted.
Ajayi urged the National Health Insurance Authority to integrate HIFU into health coverage schemes. “Government support is vital to make HIFU affordable and accessible,” he said.
