ASABA, Nigeria – Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has unveiled a $100 million (about ₦133 billion) Investment Support Fund to attract domestic and foreign investors, describing the initiative as a strategic intervention to accelerate industrialisation, create jobs and stimulate sustainable economic growth.
The governor announced the fund during the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026 in Asaba on Tuesday, explaining that it would operate as a Viability Gap Fund to reduce investment risks and facilitate the implementation of investment agreements signed during the summit.
“Delta State Government has set aside $100 million, approximately ₦133 billion, as a Viability Gap Fund to de-risk new investments in the state. This demonstrates our commitment to turning investment commitments into measurable economic impact,” Oborevwori said.
Vice President Kashim Shettima reaffirmed the Federal Government’s support for states implementing reforms aligned with national economic priorities, saying healthy competition among states in attracting investments would drive inclusive development.
Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala identified poor maintenance culture as a major challenge undermining Nigeria’s development and called on governments to protect public investments through proper maintenance.
