Former Army Chief, Gen. Tukur Buratai
ABUJA, Nigeria – Former Chief of Army Staff Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai (rtd) rejects allegations linking him to terror financing, describing the claims as false and malicious.
In a statement issued Saturday, his spokesperson Brig-Gen Sani Kukasheka Usman says the report lacks factual or legal basis and has never resulted in questioning or indictment.
“General Buratai served Nigeria for over four decades without any investigation or indictment,” the statement says.
It highlights Buratai’s role in weakening Boko Haram and ISWAP, reclaiming occupied territories and enabling the return of displaced communities.
Usman describes as “illogical” claims suggesting ties to groups Buratai actively fought, accusing Sahara Reporters of repeated smear attempts.
The statement demands an immediate retraction and apology, warning of legal action if the publication persists.
Buratai, now active in academic and policy circles, reaffirms his commitment to national development.
