BENUE, Nigeria – Suspected armed herders kill four residents in a fresh attack in Agatu Local Government Area, deepening insecurity concerns in the region.
Local authorities on Sunday confirm that the victims were ambushed along the Aila Odugheho road on Sunday morning while travelling to a nearby community.
Chairman Melvin Ejeh says improved security presence has forced attackers to change strategy. “They now resort to ambush because direct attacks are harder to execute,” he states.
Security operatives and local vigilantes launch clearance operations to flush out armed groups from surrounding forests.
A resident, Danny Uloko, describes the incident as sudden and brutal. “They were attacked while walking. It was unexpected,” he says.
Police authorities say they are yet to receive full details, even as killings in the area continue to escalate following recent deadly attacks.
