BAUCHI, Nigeria – The Bauchi State Government has identified more than 100 ghost workers in the health sector and vowed to sanction those involved in line with civil service rules.
The Executive Chairperson of the Bauchi State Hospital Management Board, Sambo Alkali, disclosed this at a news conference in Bauchi on Thursday.
According to him, names of the ghost workers will be submitted to Governor Bala Mohammed for disciplinary action.
“Recently, we carried out a verification exercise across five facilities and uncovered more than 100 ghost health workers. Their names will be forwarded to the governor,” Alkali said.
He noted that the state is addressing manpower shortages through a special recruitment scheme that has engaged more than 40 doctors ranging from consultants to medical officers, carefully distributed based on service gaps.
The Commissioner for Health, Muhammed Dambam, added that the government is working with partners to establish Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) facilities to combat child malnutrition.
He also disclosed that Governor Mohammed has approved the release of ₦250 million to recapitalise the state’s drugs and medical consumables agency.
