BAUCHI, Nigeria – The Bauchi cattle vaccination programme begins across seven local government areas as Senator Shehu Buba Umar launches an annual campaign targeting more than 70,000 cattle while urging Fulani parents to prioritise their children’s education.
The senator, who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District and is the Peoples Redemption Party governorship candidate for the 2027 Bauchi governorship election, launches the 2026 exercise on Sunday in Wuro Magaji, Bauchi Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by his Adviser on Media and Communication, Comrade Sabo Mohammed, the intervention aims to improve livestock health, prevent disease outbreaks, boost productivity and strengthen rural economies dependent on cattle farming.
The health and prosperity of our pastoral communities is directly tied to the health of their livestock. Supporting livestock owners is an investment in rural livelihoods, food security and economic growth,” Umar says.
The senator says education is equally critical to sustainable development and urges Fulani parents to ensure their children acquire formal education and skills needed for future opportunities.
He recalls that previous editions of the Bauchi cattle vaccination programme were held in Buzaye Village and Gobbiyya Village, pledging to sustain initiatives that directly improve the welfare of pastoral communities.
The programme attracts key stakeholders, including National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Alhaji Hussaini Buzaye; Bauchi State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Kabiru Yusuf; Sarkin Fulanin Wase, Alhaji Sa’idu Maikano; and other traditional and community leaders.
Following the inauguration of the newly elected Bauchi State executive committee of MACBAN in Wuntin Dada Village, Umar announces a ₦20 million donation towards constructing a permanent secretariat for the association.
“I remain committed to defending the legitimate rights and interests of Fulani communities through constitutional, lawful and democratic means,” Umar says.
